This book attempted to interpret the meaning of 'modern period' with new point of views through historical literary and bibliographical significance and consciousness of author as considering life and literature of Songsŏ̆ltang in the late of Korean empire and in the late of Korean empire.

Indeed, it examines a woman could go through in adversity of modernization period  through literatures left by Ch'oe Songsŏ̆ltang. Also, it reconsiders modern features finding the coexistence between tradition and modern based on consciousness appeared in her works.
