This book is a fruit of an international symposium which was held on October 7, 2005 in Seoul. The papers presented by the renowned legal historians from five countries cover a fundamental survey of the Roman law as a formal factor securing and promoting freedom, a general review with insight of the medieval theory of war, an illuminating interpretation of the novel disseisin in the old english law, and four other contributions in the field of private law which, penetrating the history of legal doctrines, respectively deal with Roman law and contemporary German law.
